Swedish High-Tech Company Flexenclosure Launches Unique Flexible and “Green” Base Station Solution for the Global Telecom Industry
“E-site”: Use of Renewable and Integrated Power Sources Ideal for African Conditions
[Emtunga, Sweden, November 20, 2007.] Leading Swedish high tech and “clean tech” company Flexenclosure today announces the launch of a revolutionary and unique shelter solution for telecom cellular networks. The new base station solution, called E-site, can run on renewable power sources like sun, wind and biodiesel, and shift input among these power sources via an integrated intelligent monitoring system. E-site can reduce fuel costs by up to 80% and is ideal for base stations in rural areas in Africa, with substandard infrastructure, unreliable power supplies, and frequent power cuts – but with plenty of sun and wind.
Flexenclosure’s new and innovative base station solution E-site has several revolutionary features not yet seen on the market. Its is unique in the sense that it can run on several different renewable power sources, like sun, wind and biodiesel. In addition, an intelligent monitoring system allocates and shifts input among the various power sources in an optimal manner depending on weather and climate factors.
E-site is an environmentally friendly technical solution since it mainly uses renewable power sources and may reduce the fuel costs for a base station by up to 80%. Base stations for mobile networks use a lot of power (power grid and diesel generators) and typically 50% of the stations’ operating expenses are energy costs. This can be drastically reduced – by up to 80% but typically by 50% – with E-site.
Flexenclosure’s E-site is especially suited for base stations in rural areas in developing countries, with fast-growing cellular telecom markets but often without adequate road and power infrastructure, frequent power cuts, rising energy costs etc. It is estimated that there will be at least 40,000 base stations built in Africa without adequate power sourcing in the next few years. The availability of sun and wind in Africa makes the continent especially suitable for base stations that to a large degree are run on renewable power sources.
“Our new shelter solution will make it much easier and cheaper for African and other telecom operators to roll out and run new base stations and networks in the long run. The base stations’ operating costs can be greatly reduced, and our flexible turn-key solutions guarantee a vastly reduced time to market. Break-even for operators is reached after a single year, and savings on operating costs can amount to 50% after seven years”, said Stefan Jern, CEO, Flexenclosure.
“In addition to the financial benefits, there are ever-increasing environmental concerns and legislation for telecom operators to consider. E-site is a modern, clean and ‘green’ solution that allays many of these concerns.”
Flexenclosure is also globally launching a mobile system solution for base stations that was principally developed for Swedish telecom operators (TeliaSonera, 3, Telenor and Tele2) as back up when bad weather like storms destroy existing base stations. Flexenclosure has already delivered 20 of these. They can be up-and-running after two hours.
